Garman papers, 1732-1932 (bulk 1862-1907).

Extensive personal and family correspondence, pamphlets, lecture notes, student papers, business records, photographs and other materials documenting the personal and professional life of Garman as professor of Mathematics and Philosophy at Amherst College. The bulk of the collection is made up of correspondence of Garman and his wife Eliza Miner Garman as well as that of several members of the Miner family: Affa Miner Tuttle, Jean Miner, Worthington W. Miner (AC 1868), D.W. Miner, and Julius F. Miner. Garman's papers include notebooks kept while a student at Yale Divinity School, 1877-1878, and materials related to his teaching at Amherst, including lecture notes, printed pamphlets, and an extensive collection of student papers.

Charles Edward Garman, Professor of Moral and Mental Philosophy at Amherst College, was born on December 18, 1850 in Limington, Maine. He prepared for college at the high school in Athol, Massachusetts.
